My 1963 VW Beetle - January 2012

Welcome to the home of my 1963 VW 1200 series vehicle, also known as the Beetle or Käfer. In April of 2011 I acquired my Beetle from its former owner in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Originally it came to America and was placed into service on March 29, 1963 in Gainesville, Georgia. The selling dealer was Bell Auto Sales.

Since 1963 this little Käfer was bought and sold several times ultimately spending much time in or around Villa Rica, Georgia. The owner of Herrell Bug Parts, LLC in Carrollton, Georgia did a partial restoration on the car in the 1980's. He stated that the car was very original and the mileage was accurate. At the time I purchased the car it had 134,320 on the odometer.

The purpose of this site is to chronicle the rebirth of this fine little car as I go about restoring her to as close to stock condition as time and budget allows. I hope you visit often as you see this German classic return to her glory days.

My 63 Bug News:

All four Firestone Firehawk 5.60 x 15 tires are installed. I love the new look. Also corrected several broken hub cap clamps after I lost a hub cap while traveling down the road. The spare tire installed in mid February. The tire project is completed!

Maintenance Update

The Beetle ended up being towed home behind my pickup truck on Monday, April 16, 2012. I had stopped for fuel after a nice little ride and low and behold the old girl would not start! You cannot jump off a 6 volt car easily so we towed her up to the house about one mile away.

Well I have new Carquest battery installed tonight. She is running great again. Never been towed behind a pickup truck in a Beetle. I must say even being towed was a treat in that little 63!
